Here in our wonderful, walkable Wallingford, we’re neighbors. Some of us have been in Seattle, or in Wallingford, for decades. Some of us have recently moved here for a job, or for school, or seeking an opportunity not available in our home town. We own our homes, after saving for years. We're renters, because we like the freedom, or because we can't afford to buy. We have kids at home. We're single. We're empty nesters. We represent diverse identities and backgrounds.…

BGT Campers Face Eviction

If you ride the Burke Gilman Trail as much as I do, you can't help but notice the tents that have sprung up alongside the trail in the past few months. I've seen a couple between Corliss and Eastern, and another just west of Gasworks Park. I can't help but wonder if the appearance of these tents was related to the clear out of the Jungle back in October. Whatever the cause, the arrival of the tents is a recent event.…

Last Tuesday's Urban Village Community Design Workshop sponsored by the City of Seattle was a success!  Over 300 people attended the meeting to participate in a dialogue with a representative of Councilperson Rob Johnson's office, the Office of Planning and Community Development, and the Office of Housing.  I will have to say that I was somewhat shocked and surprised that Councilperson Johnson did not show up for the meeting in that he missed a valuable opportunity to engage in a dialogue…

The walks provide an opportunity for community members to talk…

If you have kids or shop for kids, it is likely you have had the pleasure of finding treasures at Wallingford’s own Kids on 45th, a bustling consignment store which sells new and used clothes, toys and baby gear. Early on with our son, we would be in there every other week finding that cool new shaker toy or a baby food mill to try or taking home seemingly untouched pants from…France? And we also enjoy bringing things back to receive…

Henry Mural at Hashtag Recreational Cannabis

Wallingford is known for its great murals, and over the summer Ryan Henry Ward did a beauty of one for Hashtag Recreational Cannabis. Wallyhood wrote about Hashtag when it opened in 2015.  In our comments section, some were concerned about the location being close to a private daycare. Most people writing comments were unfazed, however.   Hashtag has now been open nearly two years and I haven't heard of any issues about the store. In fact, neighbors seem to like them as…
