Local, organic produce delivered to Wallingford

Here's an update to finding great CSAs and local produce in the Wallingford and U-District area (98105 and 98103). The You may note the careful parsing of terms above "CSA and organic produce delivery organizations". Why?  Community Supported Agriculture, refers specifically to a system in which individuals buy "shares" in a local farm's harvest for a year. In doing so, they pledge support for the local producer and by agreeing to share in some of the risk. Since consumers aren't buying…

Edible Books Festival Saturday

Don't forget, this Saturday is the 7th Annual Seattle Edible Book Festival at the Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Ave N). Each year, contestants create edible interpretations of their favorite writing, poetic license encouraged. The web site offers  The Brothers Karamatzah, S'more and Peace, and The Bun Also Rises as examples. The lovely at the right is "Don Quichote".…

The levy is proposed for…

Last week of the Recycling Challenge

It's crunch time for ten neighborhoods competing in the Think Green Recycling Challenge. The contest ends with waste collection on Friday, March 30, your last chance to get the heavy stuff into your recycling and food waste carts and go skimpy (but of course) on garbage. Remember, Wallingford and our neighbors to the north could win $50,000 to spend on a community project if we continue to recycle more tonnage than other Waste Management customers, compared to last year. Want to…

Another Stolen Package

You may remember our last post on this subject: Package Thefts. Now, Marilyn writes: Amazon shows that I had a book delivered to my porch last Friday night at 6:58. It disappeared sometime during the night. This is the 4th package, all from Amazon, that has gone missing from my porch in 2 months. While not entirely comforting, at the very least, we can rule out the suspect involved in this month's rash of burglaries.
