Bandolero’s Aha Toro Dinner

Update:  We received word on 5/19 that this dinner is cancelled. Aha Toro and Bandolero (Wallyhood's favorite tequila bar, TEQUILA!) present A Distiller's Dinner on Monday, May 23 at 7pm.   Now, frankly, the term "distiller's dinner" is new to me.  But I've enjoyed some of the anejo and blanco shots served at Bandolero, and I've tasted their nibbles.  Based on that, the menu sounds great.  I don't care what they call it. There are just 40 seats available, and registration is…

Wallingford Yard Sale Tour

If there is a better way to spend a Spring Saturday morning than on a bike bopping between garage sales, I don't know what it is. What makes it so wonderful? Is it finding bizarre and beautiful oddments, like the 1950's-era cellulite reducing "Home Pony" we bought years ago for just $10? Is it chatting with the hosts about the bits of their life they've decided to pass on? Or is it coasting down cherry-blossomed streets between the sales, eager with…

Of course the bird was traumatized. But, so was the manager, as he's afraid if the bird doesn't leave the store, it will set off…

Hamilton’s Day of Silence

Could you imagine a quiet middle school hallway during the day? Me neither, which is why I was intrigued to learn more about Hamilton International Middle School's recent "Day of Silence" organized by the school's Rainbow Justice League.  The Rainbow Justice League is an after school program in place for kids to talk about LGBT issues including name-calling, bullying, and harassment. Hamilton modeled its Day of Silence after the National Day of Silence, organized by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education…

Beware of ‘Eric’

My apologies to all of the other Erics living in Wallingford, but we've received word that there's a man wandering around the neighborhood who introduces himself as "Eric" and may be responsible for recent burglaries in the neighborhood--particularly around Eastern Avenue. "Eric" is actually Jeffrey McCaslin who happens to be on Washington's Most Wanted list. Here's an email from Alison with all of the details: Hi everyone, I have more information about my burglary, so I thought I’d share it. I…
