Flower thief in the neighborhood

We just got this disturbing email, complete with a photo and video from Craig about a flower thief who was caught red-handed on his security camera: My wife has a pretty great garden, it is just getting started this year since the spring hasn’t been that warm (yet).  We have had a number of odd incidents in our yard with flowers mysteriously being cut over the past few years.  I’ve been perplexed as to who would go and take flowers in…

Health tips from…Taco Time!?

Of all the fast food places in Seattle, Wallingford has a Taco Time housed in a building that looks more like a bank than a restaurant. And, not just any old bank mind you, but a 1980s throwback, complete with pink neon accoutrements. It's amazing how awkward that building looks when you compare it to the row of charming shops to the west; yet I can attest it's a busy place during lunchtime, which is why our neighborhood's Taco Time is…

Murphy’s History

When Chris Barnes and Dan Cowan originally opened Murphy's, it stood where Starbucks stands today, a half a block to the east (a Radio Shack stood on the corner of 45th and Meridian, where Murphy's is today). Dan left shortly after (and went on to open The…

Honk! Fest West at Gas Works Saturday

HONK! Fest West returns to Seattle for its fourth year this weekend.  The traveling festival will visit  Georgetown on Friday; Gas Works Park on Saturday, May 14; and Seattle Center on Sunday. What is Honk! Fest West?  Well, it's not a gaggle of geese or a google of gooses.  Nor is it a festival designed to celebrate my Roman nose.  It's about horns & percussion & dancing.  To quote the Honk! Fest organizers themselves: HONK! Fest West is a free, three-day,…

Hamilton’s Alvarez named JSIS principal

Assistant principal Jesely Alvarez of Hamilton International Middle School has been named principal of John Stanford International School.  Alvarez will take over Kelly Aramaki's post, when he departs JSIS at the end of the school year and heads to Beacon Hill International. Hamilton's principal, Chris Carter, expressed his excitement for Alvarez' new role, but also some sadness that "HIMS will be losing such a talented and respected colleague and school leader." As JSIS is one of Hamilton's feeder schools, he added…
