‘Now and Then’ at MOHAI

Paul Dorpat, Wallingford's very own "celebrian" (celebrity historian--yeah, I made that up), has worked with the Museum of History & Indsutry (MOHAI) for a "Now and Then" exhibit, which opens this Saturday, April 9, and runs until Sunday, June 3. If you're a fan of Paul's weekly "Now and Then" column for The Seattle Times' Pacific Northwest Magazine, you'll see quite a bit of his "repeat photography" in which he uses historical and contemporary photographs to reveal the changes in our…

What in the Wallingford

It looks like we've finally hit the appropriate level of stumpiness in this contest. There were many guesses where we took this photo, but only a very few correct ones. In fact, the photo taken was in the small pocket park nestled just to the west of Ivar's on the water front. It's an adorable little park flecked with bits of history and nostalgia: photos of yore (such as the one pictured) embedded in rocks, bricks with words from Seattle's earliest…

Mighty (Food Network) – O!

Gourmet . . . donuts?  You better believe it! The Food Network Challenge has selected another neighborhood eatery for its show, Tangletown's Mighty-O Donuts.  The episode airs Sunday, April 10th at 8 PM. An enthusiastic donut-eater myself, I caught up with Mighty-O's competitor, "donut creator extraordinaire" Sara Beth Russert. I know you aren't supposed to give away the ending, but what was the challenge? We had to make several different kinds of donuts and create a showpiece, a giant donut sculpture. …

We Ate The Books

The Sixth Annual Edible Book Festival has concluded.  And I'm going to tell you all about it because it was super fun. First, though, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, catch up here.  Contestants created works of edible art that were inspired by books. There was the Caramel Sutra (Bronze winner in the Drop-Dead Gorgeous category), and the Harry Potter Series: the Deathly Ho Hos, The Peeples Almanac, and Ethan Fromage.  And many more!  While I didn't manage…
