Who got busted on Aurora yesterday?

Yesterday, the Seattle Police Department, along with Washington State Patrol and Washington Liquor Control Board held a day-long Safe Driving Enforcement on Aurora. Palazzo Coffee

Today we'd like to draw your attention to a small, independent coffee shop in Lower Wallingford: Palazzo Coffee.  It's a cute little place almost hidden among apartment buildings and small businesses, but well worth keeping an eye out for. Palazzo serves drip coffee, espresso drinks, tortilla wraps, hot panini, other sandwiches, cookies, pasties, juice, sodas, etc.  For the size of the place, I don't know how they keep so many things on the menu - so many delicious things, that is…

Wallingford Weekend: ‘Give a Hoot’

Alright, show of hands: how many of you remember the original Woodsy Owl and the "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute" campaign?  It was launched by the U.S. Forest Service in honor of Earth Day, 1970--and while Woodsy has since gone through some cosmetic changes, complete with new soundbites and a Twitter feed, I can still hear the original jingle in my head. With Earth Day 2011 coming up, we've got some weekend events to share with you that not only keep…

What in the Wallingford

We have to admit we were surprised at the number of people who correctly identified last week's What in the Wallingford photo as the hand of the sculpture of an angel in front of St. Benedict's Parish House on N 48th St and Wallingford Ave. Most people identified it as an angel, although Max thought it was Icarus and Mary said she thought the name of the sculpture was "Transformation". Does anyone know for sure if it's just "an angel", or…

Birds at the Burke

Some years back, I woke up on a spring morning to this crazy, loud banging outside my window, and what I found was a woodpecker hammering away at our neighbors' chimney flashing.  I was just as much intrigued as I was annoyed, since I'd never seen a woodpecker up close outside of a zoo, and I couldn't understand why in the world the poor bird was drilling its beak on metal. I soon discovered I wasn't the only one who's spotted…
