Lost child resolved

On Saturday, we noted that the Seattle Crime blog had picked up a police scanner report of a child found wandering barefoot and "not dressed for the elements" near near 50th and Wallingford. Well, the Seattle Crime blog has the resolution of the story now, as well: The good news is that shortly after the police arrived, her father, who was out looking for her, found her as well. The bad news is that, in addition to carrying her pet rabbit,…

Wallingford Crime Report

We're encouraging people to report criminal activity in Wallingford to the police and to the Wallyhood Crime Forum. We have no idea what the police do with their reports, but we'll be rolling up the reports from the forum here, to help folks keep a pulse on the criminal beat. A few people have reported egging incidents. Wallyhood is carefully restraining ourselves from the many obvious puns this crime offers. A black shogun bike with pink-taped handlebars was stolen from someone's…

Homelessness around Keystone

Occasionally, a note or conversation will start in the Wallyhood Forums that seems worth bubbling up to the main blog. Back in early 1960's, Jim Crow laws, mandating separate facilities for blacks and whites throughout the South, were still very much on the books and enforced. When Dallas County, Alabama blacks showed up on one of the two…

Tour de Wallyhood

Being a mom of young kids, living in Wallingford is a gift. There are so many places you can go,  on foot or by bicycle, to amuse the little ones and yourself, as the winter days start to give everyone cabin fever. Just the other day, we made a solid two hour outing of walking around, doing a “tour de wallyhood” if you will. We were gone so long that the baby bjorn straps cut into my shoulders, creating semi-permanent grooves. Perhaps I…
