Another Fire Blazes in Wallingford

Nestled in bed, here in Wallingford, I awoke to the sound of sirens -- and a lot of them. At 7:12am, a firefighter's shift was just wrapping up when a call came into the Seattle Fire Department -- he knew the address -- this would be the third time he was called to an abandoned house on 5th Avenue NE and 40th Street to put out a potentially deadly fire. I spoke to firefighters once the blaze was safely contained and…

Support the Arts, Lincoln High School, and the Wallingford Community with a Gershwin Musical!

Wallyhood and Lincoln High School parent Lynn wrote to us about a show opening March 25th—Nice Work If You Can Get It—that raises money for the arts in the Seattle Public Schools.  The local community theater company, Woodland Park Players, is staging the musical at Shoreline Community College later this month.  Since its inception, Woodland Park Players has granted $25,000-plus to our schools.  The proceeds from these performances will benefit this worthy grant program.  Lynn wrote: “We’re inviting the Wallyhood community…

Another Break In – 45th Stop N Shop & Poke Bar

ANOTHER BREAK IN --  MORE DAMAGE While out for a morning walk a few minutes ago, I passed by the 45th Stop N Shop & Poke Bar  that we spotlighted in a Wallyhood post  just 10 days ago. My heart sank when I saw two police officers mid-response and felt glass crunching beneath my feet. I spoke briefly to the Stop N Shop owners, who were busy cleaning up damage and making phone calls. They shared that this is the 5th…

Fremont/Wallingford Apartment Fire and Subsequent Woes

In the early morning hours of February 25th, 911 dispatchers for the Seattle Fire Alarm Center received multiple calls about a 2-story apartment building fire in the 3600 block of Woodland Park Ave. N., in the Fremont/Wallingford neutral zone.  Three engine units arrived to find visible flames and heavy smoke coming from the front-left side of the building’s first and second floors.   According to the SFD Fireline Blog: "…firefighters evacuated the entire building and made entry into the second floor, however…

I am an avid—and only occasionally, concerning—wine drinker.  My house wines admittedly lean toward the boxed variety (please don’t judge). But when I heard that Wallyhood had a winery:  well, I had to find out more. It’s true.  Wallingford (Tangletown, actually) has its own licensed winery:  Sound Goods.  But before you begin searching Google Earth…
