Meridian School cleans up

On Thursday morning, kindergartners through fifth graders from The Meridian School were out at Meridian Park and on nearby Bagley raking, weeding, sweeping, and picking up litter.   The efforts were a part of The Meridian School’s annual fall Community Service Day.  At the north end of the park, fourth graders worked with an arborist from Sustainable Wallingford to measure trees, while parents worked hard at an apple press, making homemade cider.  I gotta tell ya -- honestly --  it was the…

Chickadees Preschool Open House…Come One…Come All

As a mother, I know that there is a stress that comes naturally with finding that perfect preschool.  Parents start planning what school their child is going to attend before they are even born, and I have heard the rumors of parents enrolling their children in preschool three years before they are ready to attend.  Well, I can honestly say that I don't have that much motivation; but if you are looking for that one school that is different from the…

Hamilton’s Community Celebration

While Saturday’s Community Celebration at Hamilton International Middle School had a little lower turnout than the ribbon cutting ceremony, there were still plenty of students eager to show parents their lockers and classrooms during the open house. Visitors had access to all three floors of the school and were treated to the sounds of Hamilton’s marimba ensemble on the outside courts, as well as the jazz band that played in their own classroom on the ground floor. Have a look inside the…

The real answer comes from Michael Romero, the project manager for Hamilton's.  Michael issued a memorandum this week…

Hamilton’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Hundreds of people--from neighbors, students and faculty, to Seattle Public School Board Members--came out during this gorgeous, cloudless morning for the ribbon cutting ceremony at Hamilton International Middle School.  Members from the Hamilton Marimba Band welcomed guests with a fun and festive piece called “Mardi Gras.” Principal Christopher Carter began the ceremony, thanking everyone involved and said he was thrilled to be leaving their temporary home at Lincoln High School,  “with all due respect,” he added with a wry grin. As…

McDonald School Play Structure

In more McDonald School news, there's a new play structure on the way (or, in the modern lingo, "playscape"). Project Coordinator Kathleen Ellsbury writes: Looks like we'll have a new play structure at McDonald School before long! With funds from the neighborhood, some employers, King County Youth Sports Facilities Grant program, and the City of Seattle's neighborhood Matching Fund, we will be able to prepare for and install the structure below, as well as a concrete border and two concrete disability-compatible…
