Safety Improvements to Bike to Green Lake? Yes, please!

One of the most harrowing experiences I've encountered on a bike was waiting for the light at the intersection of N. 50th St. and Green Lake Way N. It wasn't concern for my safety so much as it was for my 11 year-old son, who nearly fell off his bike from fright as a motorist leaned on his horn. I couldn't tell you exactly why the driver decided to honk at us, since, after all, we were in the green bicycle…

Whale Wins, Joule Wins, Wallingford Wins

A national food magazine has proclaimed something that folks here in Wallingford have known for years: our neighborhood has some of the best restaurants in America. Both Joule and The Whale Wins have been named "#9" on the list of  "The Hot 10" by Bon Appetit. They're combined because they share common space in the Fremont Collective on Stone Way, but according to Andrew Knowlton of Bon Appetit, "Each place is a standout on its own, but combined, they’re the ideal…

Small and Simple Projects Fund activities may be physical projects as well as less tangible but equally significant educational, cultural, and relationship-strengthening activities. All projects must demonstrate its capacity to build a stronger…

Wallingford Art Walk

Wednesday is the second Wednesday of the month, and thus, from 6 - 9 pm, Wallingford Art Walk. As always, we welcome pre-clues about what's going on, which we will happily share here. Here's what we know, via Colleen Kurke, organizer: The Wallingford Center Plaza will feature "The East Street Band" from 6:30 to 8PM. Also some businesses will have art displayed. Maps will be at the plaza that evening. Easy Street is a 9-piece Jazz Swing Band with an outstanding female…

(Little Free) Book Lust

To my complete delight, I discovered a new (blue!) little free library in lower Wallingford recently. This prompted me to visit each of Wallingford's Little Free Libraries (or at least the ones known to this blog). I was surprised to find NONE between 40th and 45th Streets. Can this really be true? Please leave a comment if you know of one that's missing! For more on Wallingford's LFLs, including addresses, see our previous post.

Clips of Faith: Film Shorts and Flowing Beer

Hey, remember a couple weeks back when the Clips of Faith Film Festival came through Gas Works Park? Hailey Way from the UW News Lab was kind enough to share her experience: After a warm day in Seattle, the sun perched on the horizon, lighting Gas Works Park last Friday evening. As soon as the sun went down, with beers in hand, attendees of the New Belgium Brewing Clips of Faith tour nestled into picnic blankets to watch homemade film shorts…
