Community Council and Meridian Playground Fix Up

This Wednesday at the Wallingford Community Council (7:00 - 9:00 pm, Good Shepherd Center, Room 202) we'll have Pamela from the Parks Department attending. I was fortunate to work with her and Ron from the Meridian School on the Meridian Playground renovation a few years back and she is being brought back to deal with maintenance issues. First, we're looking to have the Meridian Playground sculptor, Patrick Maher, replace the sculpture that had the arm ripped off a couple years ago.…

Community Breakfast to Celebrate the Season

The Wallingford Community Senior Center will host a Harvest Breakfast on Saturday, 9/10.  Attendees will enjoy a seasonal breakfast, freshly-made for neighbors and friends. Wallyhood hasn't seen the menu yet, but do we really need to know anything more than "harvest breakfast" to get the taste buds fired up? Plus, there's a bonus:  immediately after breakfast you can just walk 'round back & enjoy Seattle Tilth's Harvest Fair from 10am - 4pm in Meridian Park.  Wallyhood's got more detail about the…

Make way for the bus parade

If you live near one of our three neighborhood public schools, you know what it's like--oh--between 7:45 – 9:30a.m., and again from 1:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: The endless march of school buses picking up, dropping off, picking up, dropping off. This is a reminder that it all begins again next Wednesday (9/7).

How Wallingford Changed Me

Wallyhood is pleased to introduce a new writer and cartoonist, Shalini Miskelly. Shalini is a stay-at-home mom of two boys and a freelance writer. You can find more of her cartoons and writing at http://readingandchickens.blogspot.com or at http://twitter.com/booksnchickens. My husband and I moved to Wallingford in 2005 from a dark, soulless crevasse of humanity (also known as Sammamish). We realized from our time in the suburbs that we were more of a city family, and so bought the cheapest house we…

Celebrate harvest season with Seattle Tilth

September's here, which means it's time to celebrate harvest season at Seattle Tilth's Harvest Fair 2011. The fair is next weekend, on Saturday, September 10, from 10:00am - 4:00pm at Meridian Park, and oh boy, have they outdone themselves this year with an impressive lineup of events suitable for all ages: Urban Livestock Meet folks who raise chickens, goats, and bees and find out what it takes to make milk, eggs and honey. They'll also have a cider press onsite so…
