Happy 200th, William Makepeace Thackeray!

Today marks British Victorian-era novelist and satirist William Makepeace Thackeray's 200th birthday. Last night, reader Doug snapped a pic of a poster placed on the corner of NE. 45th St. at Thackeray Pl. NE., commemorating the occasion. Among the dozen or so novels he wrote, Thackeray's most famous works are Vanity Fair, The Luck of Barry Lyndon, The History of Henry Esmond, and its sequel, The Virginians. Though historians claim Thackeray was second only to Dickens in terms of popularity, his…

Hide ‘n Seek

This sounds like good clean neighborly fun: 'Hood Hunts will be in "mid" Wallingford (40th to 45th St.) on Wed. Wally Pets to change ownership

We heard through the Wallyvine that Wally Pets (4411 Wallingford Ave N.) is about to change hands. So, I dropped in and spoke to the soon-to-be new owner who verified this little tidbit, and he says the change will occur officially on August 1. I promised to return to interview him for Wallyhood--especially since he pointed out several framed photographs of exotic animals from all over the world, and told me he was the one who photographed them in the wild.…

Good Neighbors

Last summer, Helen treated us to a post titled, "One Good Deed Deserves Another, and Another..."  I think about that post every now and then, and find myself inspired today to thank some of our neighbors for recent goodness, both small and ginormous. Thanks, guys: Akbar over at Palazzo Coffee, thanks for taping the recipe for my partner's favorite but far-too-complicated drink inside the cash register for your barista to use while you were out of town.  How very thoughtful, since…
