Meridian Market For Sale

It may come as no surprise, but it's still a sad thing to see. We reported back in January that Meridian Market was struggling: cash flow was poor enough that they were having trouble keeping the shelves stocked, causing a deepening spiral. Up in Tangletown for a meal at the Pour House tonight*, we spotted this note in the window of the market: We hope they are able to find a good buyer, one who can rejuvenate this neighborhood market. Having…

Talk to Me, Baby!

Want to read what readers are writing, or write something for readers to read? There's a place for that, it's called the Wallyhood Forums.  Let's take a peek at what's going on: Recommendations.  Optometry, Dental and Physician.  You only get one set of eyes, teeth and body.  Take care of them. If you cast your eye down the list, you will see people posting for all sorts of other advice, information and services.  You could be one of those people!  Need…

Wallingford is Doggone Friendly

Wallyreader Yolanda writes: It would be great if you could do a spot on dog-friendly Wallingford. Especially with the summer heat a lot of people are out with their dogs, many stores offer air conditioning, a safe space outside of the hot and dangerous car plus treats and water. So, on one of our few warm and sunny days, I leashed up Wallyhood Rover Reporter, Scout, and set out to do a recon mission to see just how many stores in Wallingford are…

Fantasia to Fremont

A whole series of gigantic potholes being repaired on Woodlawn south of 41st?  No, must be Hamilton construction.  A man with tired eyes walks up the block with a fussy baby in a Snugli.  The man walks and walks, the baby cries and cries. On 39th and Carr Ave. N. (a lovely "hidden" street) earsplitting shrieks - catfight!  A burly ginger tom blurs after a gray-and-white under a car and then back into some bushes, screaming the whole way.  The tom…

Peace Concert at Gas Works

The 30th Annual (congrats!) Seattle Peace Concerts are in full swing and coming to Gas Works Park this Sunday, 8/15. The concerts have been part of Seattle summers since 1981.  Concert coordinator Don Glenn, known as the "Chief" of the Seattle Peace Concerts,  attributes their continued success to the underlying spiritual nature of the gatherings. As the Seattle Peace Concerts website puts it,  "The concerts are non-political in nature (no speeches) and celebrate peace and the oneness of all people.  AT…

Alterations and Reweaving: Mystery Solved

Wallyhood reader Chris snapped a pic as workers were loading sewing machines and other items onto a truck this afternoon.  He spoke with the landlord who was clearing out the building, and told him that Phyllis became very ill (stroke she thinks) and is in a home now.  As far as she is aware, all owners of  clothing that had tickets on it have been contacted. Thanks for the update, Chris!

Best of Seattle 2010 Roundup

I could have sworn I saw last year's category "Best Corner For Sugar Addicts" online yesterday as soon as the results were posted, but today it's no longer there.  Doesn't matter.  We know the best corner for sugar addicts is 45th & Wallingford.  And by the way, I really wish those sugar addicts would quit using sugar in the alleys & leaving the empties on the sidewalks!  Indecent! Now that I have that off my chest, congratulations to all Wallingford winners…
