Green Lake Spiritual Center Opens

Green Lake Spiritual Center co-directors India and Steve Holden personally invite Wallyhood readers to the center's Grand Opening this Sunday, August 1st from 10am - 9pm. India Holden describes the center's purpose this way: "The center is loosely organized around spirituality (not of any one religion, it embraces them all), and is designed as a community center. We are making the space available for anything the community needs and wants on a purely donation basis.  People can do session work like…

Rebuilding our Dump

(Ed. Note: For background, the city has been planning for some time to rebuild the "transfer station" (aka "dump") at 34th and Stone Way for some time. The most recent Wallyhood article on this was our Transfer Station Update in August 2009.) Now that planning for the dump rebuild is about to begin in earnest, the stakeholder group is spinning back up for the first time in 9 months. The next meeting is this Thursday, from 6-8 PM at Nalanda West…

Farmer’s Market Today

This weekend I finally got a chance to watch Food, Inc. And just like the trailer promised, I no longer look at dinner the same way.  Nor lunch, nor breakfast.  Nor the lovely things to be found at the Wallingford Farmer's Market:  cherries, fresh meats, handmade pasta, greens, carrots, kolaches, marinades, ice cream, etc. 3-7 pm in the Wallingford Center parking lot.  Don't forget to show your produce to participating Wallingford Center merchants for a 10% discount while the market is…

Stuffed with Dim Sum and Very Happy

After a long trip to the Northern Canadian wilderness our family returned to Seattle hungry for ethnic urban eats.  What better place than the new Bamboo Village at the corner of Stone Way and N 49th St? I include this sign facing Stone Way because it makes me smile.  It's authentic. View from the surprisingly spacious parking lot (although we walked - yes! walked to dim sum in Wallingford). Inside, it's also surprisingly light, bright and spacious with clean high ceilings…

Lullaby Moon 2010. Wanna Play?

Lucia Neare's Theatrical Wonders announces Lullaby Moon returns to Gas Works Park on Friday, September 10th. Why mention it now?  Because if you'd like to participate in this year's performance, it's time to apply!  They're seeking performers (dancers, actors, clowns) and volunteers to help pull off this fun little end of summer event.  Click here for more info about getting involved. And for those of you unfamiliar, Lucia Neare's Lullaby Moon page describes the event as: "...a free, large-scale, site-specific public…

News from Nearby

Sometimes -- not very often -- but sometimes, newsworthy events take place outside of Wallingford. Here's this week's sampling: "One of the best known and most popular gardens in Eastlake is in trouble with the City of Seattle..." writes the Eastlake Ave Blog.  Looks like there's a little controversy brewing, and maybe a four-way stop coming to E. Lynn and Minor E.  Let's hope the solution extends beyond throwing fines at a parking strip gardener. CHS Capitol Hill Seattle reports a…
