Hamilton Middle School Grand Opening

Things have become much quieter over at Hamilton--signaling that, with exception of a few finishing touches, the school is ready for the big move.  According to a letter they delivered to homes in the immediate area, we’ll be seeing moving trucks shuttle furniture, equipment and books between Lincoln and the 41st and Densmore side of Hamilton this month and next, as crews prepare for the first day of school on Wednesday, September 8. The letter also announces two public events to…

Shake, Rattle and Roll at Izilla Toys

After a soggy opening day of the Wallingford Farmer's Market back in May our family ran for shelter inside the Wallingford Center to warm up with board games and free pizza at Izilla Toys' Family Game Night.  Their next Family Game night will be Wednesday, July 21st (again, during the Farmers Market) from 5-7 PM. Here's what we found:  Folks gathered around several tables reading instructions, shuffling cards and sorting game pieces.  There was a great assortment - here are some…

Thanks to Steve Peters for his email about World Listening Day on Sunday.  Steve and his colleague Steve Barsotti (Steve squared!) will be hosting some Greenlake listening walks on Sunday, as noted below: "In honor of the first World Listening Day, the Seattle Phonographers Union invites the public to participate in a series of soundwalks on Sunday, July 18th at Seattle's Green Lake from 10AM to 4PM. Joule Has A Gem!

During one of our weekly family strolls last Wednesday night, I noticed Joule had a handwritten sign taped to their window, which read that they'd be closed for the evening. "Hmmm," I wondered aloud, "why would Joule be closed tonight?  It's Bastille Day!" Alas for the Francophiles, but cheers for the tender-hearted, Joule's Facebook page reveals the answer: To those who love Joule and have been waiting for our new bundle of joy, Pike Jun Jack Chirchi came to this world…

Babalu is back

Well, it sounds like that "HVAC work" that supposedly caused Babalu to close suddenly has been resolved, and the bar is set to re-open. According to the My Wallingford blog, Babalu has managed to get its liquor license back, despite having operated for almost a month without one. While he couldn't get the cabaret / nightclub license (too small), he has managed to convince the liquor license review panel that he'll be adding more than $99 TV dinners to the menu.…

Help Improve Seattle.gov

If you've ever been frustrated at how difficult government web sites are to use, here's your chance to help them improve (and make a little something for yourself while you're at it). Sarah Schacht writes: We're trying to reach out to Wallingford residents and those in northeast Seattle to participate in a usability study of Seattle.gov. The mayor's office and Seattle's Department of Information Technology have committed to using our study to guide redesigning the site. We're in the first round…

Ladybug, Ladybug

The beautiful intersection-wide Ladybug painted at 48th and Burke will be getting a refresh this Sunday afternoon, Carrie M. tells us. The ladybug was created six years ago as the brainchild of Eric Higbee, who has put photos of early sketches and the creation of the bug on his web site. Every year, a group of neighbors get together to refresh it and enjoy a bit of sunshine and comraderie, and this year, it's this weekend. Stop over and join the…
