The Community Council, Nick Licata, and the GSC

Are related only in as much as I will cover all three so that I have enough material for a post. As the WCC just had the annual meeting, we are scrubbing the June 2nd Community Council meeting. On July 7th, we will likely meet to participate in 520 rebuild feedback round 4253, more on that as the time approaches. I suspect nothing will be built until flying trains can be built for free. If you want a political fix this…

Hollow Earth Radio: Movin’ On

In January '09, Wallyhood introduced us to Hollow Earth Radio -- an Internet radio station broadcasting an eclectic mix of music and interviews 24 /7 from right here in Wallingford. Sadly, we've recently learned that Hollow Earth is moving out of the 'hood and into the Central district.  But it's good news for them, for local musicians, and for indie music fans throughout the city.  From their recent press release: By moving to a publicly accessible station in Seattle's Central District,…

Skate, Fast Girl, Skate!!

There are some fast girls in our neighborhood.  Fast, fast girls.    On roller skates, that is.  Did you know Wallingford is home to the first brick-and-mortar womens roller derby equipment store in the world? Roller derby?  Yes, since 2001 in Austin, TX roller derby has made a big resurgence, according to Fast Girl Skates employee Fighty Almighty (that's her "derby name").  She and the store's owners, Le Petite Mort (or Jenny as she's known outside the rink) and Wile E. Peyote…

Comunity Council Annual Meeting Recap

(Wallyhood welcomes Eric Fisk, the incoming Wallingford Community Council President, to our pages.) Hello! After a fierce campaign for the Wallingford Community Council presidency where many able and compelling candidates declined to serve, it turns out I will be filling the role. I got involved when renovating Meridian Playground- the council was the fiscal sponsor and helped connect me with the right people and processes in city government. The many volunteer groups at the annual meeting this past Thursday were great…
