Neighbors Call 911 During Grammatrain Shoot

KIRO-TV reports that several neighbors called 911 last night when they heard explosions coming from Gas Works Park. Turns out Grammatrain used some pyrotechnics while shooting their video for "The Last Sound." Do you live nearby? What did you hear? [Ed. note: Now, it goes without saying that those neighbors would have known that a music video was in production had they read Wallyhood (see our announcement of the shoot earlier this week, complete with sartorial instruction). This is why it…

Hamilton Construction Update

This month’s Hamilton Construction Update is brought to you in part by the word “accoutrement”, as in: the construction workers at Hamilton are putting in plants, light fixtures and other accoutrement on school grounds. This to me signals the beginning of the end; the light at the end of the tunnel. Hallelujah! Over the last few days it’s been interesting to watch the installation of plants, trees, and beautiful wrought iron fencing around the perimeter of the school.  My only comment…

We arrived on the dot at 4 for Rachel Yang of Joule Restaurant's cooking demonstration.  Asparagus was clearly the ingredient of the day (imagine cooking this on a hotplate under a tent): Asparagus Pesto and Smoked Salmon on Hominy Toast Asparagus, Purple Potato, Cheese Curd…

Pool Closures?

As we've been reporting for some time, the Wallingford Playfield wading pool appears to be out of harm's way (or budget cut's way, at least) for 2010. However, if you're concerned with the fate of other nearby pools, such as Green Lake's, head on over to My Green Lake for the report on the Fate of the Aquatics to Come.

Rampaging Elephants? Burning Buildings?

If you listen closely this Saturday morning, May 22nd, from 9:00-11:00 AM you may hear several unusual reports of destruction, mayhem, and emergencies occurring around Wallingford and all around the city. The network of volunteer HAM operators, the Seattle Auxiliary Communications Service or ACS, will be holding an exercise to test the emergency communication network up to the City’s Emergency Operations Center, EOC. This will be the first time that the neighborhood emergency preparedness groups, like the one we have here…
