Wallingford: Best Place to Live

Monica Guzman at the Seattle PI recently pointed readers to a Seattle Met Magazine article about the 15 best places to live in Seattle ... and Wallingford is NOT on the list.  Oh the indignity! Ballard, Queen Anne & Green Lake made the list.  But not Wallingford.  WTF? We must investigate: Alki &  Queen Anne were selected for their "brand names" Green Lake, View Ridge, and Madison Park seem to have been selected for walkability & enjoyment of the outdoors/local shops…

Power Outage

Katherine wrote: What happened to the stop lights at N 45th and Stone Way N? This morning there were finally stop signs but the whole intersection was still a confused mess. Sounds related to the note we got from Pete over at Archie McPhee last night: Power outage @ 45th & Stoneway.  6:30PMish.  Seems to be affecting about 80 customers. here at Archie McPhee half our power is off! Support Wallingford Artists at a Local Art Fundraiser

We already know that Wallingford is home to some extraordinary art, but it is also home to some extraordinary artists. Just a month ago I had the privilege of attending an in-home art show down at the corner of 51st and Wallingford. The venue was cozy and comfortable; the show was hosted in Reagan Jackson’s home- in the space of a cleared out living room, dining room, and bedrooms. Reagan combined creative forces with some friends and put together a show…

Accident on 1st

Earlier this week, Andy wrote: A girl on a bicycle was hit by a motorist at the corner of 43rd and 1st, right outside my kitchen window. Fire, police, ambulance came, took her away on a stretcher, though it appeared to me that she was basically okay.  She was wearing her helmet, thankfully! Couple of scratches but seems okay. Car dented and windshield shattered, bike bent up. People generally drive too fast along 1st. I wasn't there to see it, only…

Wallingford’s Best Traffic Circle

My wife and I noticed this even before we bought our house and loved the whimsy – I remember leaning out the window as we did a loop around the circle (yes, we went ALL the way around, like a good motorist should) to see what each sign would reveal. I’ve asked around the neighborhood, but no one is talking. I see a gleam in the eye of a couple of neighbors – but thus far the artist remains elusive! On…

Janet, the First Lady of Wallingford

Let me say up front that I have been neighbors and friends with Janet Stillman these last 11 years and I admire her.  Deeply.  Because she is talented and energetic and caring and I can't think of anyone else who has done more for this neighborhood.  And, no, no one elected her First Lady of Wallingford but in my mind that's what she is.  There, I've put all my cards on the table. Janet's official title is the Director of the…
