Essential Bakery Update

(Today's post comes from our newest writer, Kendall Sweeney, who brings us the inside scoop on the changes at, and history of, the Essential Bakery) In response to the inquiry about what is in the future for the Essential Baking Co Building, it is not yet entirely clear. There has been talk of remodeling the space in order to put a bike wheel manufacturing business in where the bakery used to be. The likelihood is that the space will remain empty…

Whistling Pipes

Michelle writes: I don't know who else to ask, but WHAT is that high-pitched noise coming from the part of the 'hood, down by 34th and Wallingford (or at least that's where i hear it!) Wind through a pipe? Dog whistle for people? It is insufferable at night, and i can't think of who to ask/call about it. You were the first people i thought to contact. Amores Perros Update

As a result of community feedback on my last playground post, Amores Perros, I contacted Seattle Parks and Recreation with our request for a MuttMitt dispenser for Wallingford Playfield. I've been informed by a communications manager that due to budget cuts, the Parks Department will not be able to accomodate all requests as they have in the past, but he has put it to the attention of the grounds supervisor so it is now officially under consideration. I'll provide an update once I get word of the decision.…

Salon Tousle Opening in Former Jamba Juice Spot

On the way to preschool this morning, I noticed a large red, oval-shaped sign being installed on the ground floor level of the apartment buildings on the corner of 46th and Stone Way. After a little investigative research, I found that a new hair salon is opening in the space where Jamba Juice once occupied for about a week. Tousle is touting itself as "Seattle's Premier Hair Studio" and will hold a grand opening event on March 6.  Light appetizers and…

Break-in at Quizno’s?

I stopped by Quizno's for a little diet pepsi and saw some wood paneling (where there should have been glass) on their front and side doors. The sandwich artist on shift said that the store had been broken into last Monday night/early Tuesday morning - cash and food were missing. I didn't get much more information than that, so let us know if you've heard anything else. Hopefully, the sammies will be safe going forward.

Free Lecture on Parenting Teens

While I've still got a few more years (thank goodness!) before my little ones reach their teen years, I'm somewhat daunted by the prospect of--what my mother often described as-- living with aliens under my roof.  As a teen, I had to agree, only I thought I was the normal one and she was the alien.  Knowing what I've put poor mom through during that time, I'd say I've got my work cut out for me! It's true that not all…
