John Ross Memorial

A few weeks back we noted that the writer, music-lover and long-time Interlake and 42nd St Wallingford resident John Ross had passed away. Mary recently posted a comment on that notice letting us know that there will be a memorial service on September 26th: There will be a celebration of John's life held on Saturday, September 26 Sunday, September 27th, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Pioneer Hall, 1642 - 43rd Ave E., Seattle, WA (between E. Farmer’s Market

We didn't get our usual e-mail from the organizers letting us know what will be fresh at today's Wallingford Farmer's Market (3 - 7 pm, Wallingford Center), but a bit of sleuthing told us that the cooking demonstration at 4 pm will by Chef Alex Pitts of Bella Cosa. We've had the pleasure of chatting food with Alex a number of times on visits to Bella Cosa, and what we say now is true: that man loves food. Passionately. We don't…

If you thought you heard shots early Tuesday morning, you weren't imagining it. The SPD Blotter blog relates: On 9/8/09, just shortly before 1:00 a.m., officers were in the area of Greenlake, near Evans Pool, conducting an area check on a shots fired call.  While checking the pool lot, a female approached officers and advised that she had just been robbed. According to the victim, she was walking near the canoe rental shed, when two males approached her.  One of the males put a…

West Nile

We here at Wallyhood don't think we've been doing our fair bit to sew fear and panic in the quiet hamlet of Wallingford recently. Today, we shall right this wrong. For the past couple of weeks, the Wallyhoods have remarked on the large number of dead crows we've noticed around our neighborhood, four spotted in one day. Then, we saw this story, West Nile virus found in Seattle neighborhood, in the Seattle PI's Big Blog: The local health department says that…

Welcome to Llingford

As we reported last week, the QFC remodel is underway and the iconic W A L L I N G F O R D sign came down last week (a day earlier than forecast) for safekeeping. Jack Bonney, who took the photo on the left, suggested "I suppose 'Llingford', the neighborhood's name circa 11am today, could have kind of a nordic flair to it, or perhaps be read as "ying-ford," if I remember how double 'L' works in Spanish." Thanks to…

Third Runway

Ted writes: I'm curious if other Wally residents are feeling the effects of increased air traffic due to the expanded use of the third runway. Apparently, the third runway is replacing the eastern runway while it is being rebuilt.  SeaTac says that the construction should last through September. They have also said, in the Port website's FAQ section, that the Port will review (and potentially adjust) flight patterns related to the third runway at the end of the year. We actually…
