Paul was a treasured educator for and about the city, as well as a resident and fixture in our Wallingford neighborhood. Those of you who still subscribe to the Seattle Times are likely well-acquainted with the work and the words of Wallingford resident Paul Dorpat. Mr. Dorpat, with Jean Sherrard, curated the “Now & Then” section of the Sunday Times’ Pacific NW Magazine, now written by Clay Eals. Dan and Rose Riley

Last Thursday, Wallingford suffered a tragic loss when two of its longtime residents, Dan and Rose Riley, died from injuries sustained after their car hit a tree on N. 34th St. at Burke Avenue N. If you were in the neighborhood around 12:30pm, you probably heard the news helicopters flying overhead and heard the emergency vehicles heading south. Paul Dorpat let us know that Wallingford mourns the passing of a long-time resident, community activist, bicyclist and writer, Helene Gabel Ryan, and forwarded along this obituary written by friend and public historian Gerald Elfendahl. Helene Gabel Ryan, 91, writer, activist and bicyclist died Tues., Dec. 15 surrounded by the love of her family. Memorial Procession for Timothy Brenton

According to a Seattle Department of Transportation press release, there will be a memorial procession for slain Seattle Police Officer, Timothy Brenton tomorrow morning, Nov 6th.
