Scouts scoop scanners

OK, they're collecting more than scanners, but we just get all loopy for alliterations. Christopher writes: Boy Scout Troop 186 is conducting an e-cycling drive this Saturday as a fundraiser for troop activates. We're encouraging folks to contact us this week and schedule a pickup time for Saturday (March 27th) morning. We'll pick up as many boxes as you have at $25 / a box. Old computers, cell phones, chargers, cables, monitors, TVs, printers (small surcharge there), you name it. If…

Wallingford’s Crime Rate Equal to Pioneer Square’s, Says SPD

Pioneer Square's neighborhood blog, The New Pioneer Square released an intriguing post yesterday, stating that the Seattle Police Department reports Pioneer Square's major crime statistics to be comparable to those of Wallingford and Fremont: According to the Seattle Police Department, the Pioneer Square “west” neighborhood, which includes everything west of 2nd Avenue Extension (not including my side of the street) is on par with North Lake Union (Fremont/Wallingford) in terms of “major crimes” – 630-1718 total incidents per square mile, and…

Free and Cheap Eats Day

Let's take the freebie tour of Wallingford, shall we? We'll start with a free pastry at Starbucks (before 10:30 am, print the coupon or show the barista a copy on your mobile phone). Timed, perhaps, to coincide with the Starbuck's annual shareholder's meeting Wednesday? A fine breakfast, but now it's time for some lunch. How about Ivar's? Perfect, because they're celebrating the 105th birthday of their "flounder", Ivar Haglund. Buy one entree, say "Happy Birthday, Ivar" and you'll get a second…
