Return of the Bull

You can end your speculatin' about what is going to happen to Goldie's (which you may remember closed back in March) Kara C. of the Wallingford Chamber e-mailed us with the udpate: Goldie's has been bought by Bernie, very nice Irishman who owns a pub in the U-Dist and one in Cap Hill.  He popped in here a couple hrs ago to say hi & buy a card.  He started gutting it today, says it's a real mess inside, but plans…

Wallingford Nightlife: Do You Care?

A few weeks back, we introduced a new resource to our ever burgeoning trove of Wallingford wonkery: the Wallingford Nightlife Calendar, an oft-updated compendium of all the adult-focused music, trivia nights, and dancing around our unprepossessing little 'hood. You may remember that several Wallingford and Green Lake motels along Aurora have distinguished themselves as wretched hives of scum and villainy (see Motel Crackdown, More Trouble at the Italia Motel, Wallingford Inn Madness, Wrong Police Raid, Police Looking for Bank Robber at Marco Polo, but also BBQ at the Marco Polo for the background). When we left our heroes, the city had taken…

The Shoe Tree of Wallingford

There are as many answers to “why are there shoes in trees” are there are, well, shoes in trees. I spotted this Shoe Tree of Wallingford just yesterday: (Bagley and 40th) Maybe it’s all of the caffeinated people from Irwin’s. Perhaps it’s the folks on the way back from Durn Good, celebrating snagging that last block of ice, or that 6-pack of Guinness. Or maybe, as Snopes.com suggests, there isn’t a right answer, just a lot of possible answers! Are there…
