While Wine World held its private grand opening party tonight (the public grand opening party is tomorrow night), apparently some less sophisticated drinkers were rumbling across the street. The Seattle Crime blog reports: Seattle police responded to a shots fired call in Wallingford around 7:45pm tonight, near a pizza place and tattoo parlor. That would be Slave to the Needle Tattto and Milano Pizza, by process of elimination. No additional information is available, except that a bullet was lodged in the…

A Muddy Cup, Comics Dungeon Burglarized

Last night around 11:30 p.m., the police came to Sarah Dolezal's home to inform her that her store, A Muddy Cup (266 NE 45th St.), had just been burglarized.  Someone had thrown a rock through the door and shattered the glass to break in.  Police informed Dolezal that someone had also broken into Comics Dungeon (250 NE 45th St.). Dolezal wrote to let me know that they're still open for business, "just a little shaken." She and her partner Mathew spent…

Incident at the Durn Good

At 5:54 a.m. last Friday, a man wearing a blanket around his shoulders and carrying a large rock, damaged the glass door at the Durn Good Grocery. The store’s security camera captured the incident. The man began by throwing the rock, about the size of a tennis ball, at the glass door six times before banging against the glass with the rock repeatedly, next to the front door’s handle. After several attempts to break the glass, the man turned around and…

Lock Up Yer Ladders!

An anonymous Wallyhood tipster sent this advice for discouraging those around the neighborhood with an underdeveloped sense of respect for other people's personal property: The first Police Notes item in today's the Herald-Outlook concerns a ladder that was left outside and then used by criminals to climb in an open 2nd story window at a nearby home. Folks, please, please put your ladders away inside your basement or garage at the end of the workday.  If you can't do that, then…

Attempted Arson on Saturday

Did you hear all those sirens in the morning yesterday?  We did, but it sounded like the ambulance and fire trucks were headed on to Aurora.  Turns out, they were responding to an incident on Whitman at 41st.  Wallyreader Yolanda shared this with us: There was an arson attempt of our condo building located at 4111 Whitman Ave N at approximately 11 am Saturday 9/4/10. They used a lighter and kept it lit and propped it up so it burned in…

Block Watch 2010

One thing that struck us when we took our tour of block parties a few weeks back was that a number of groups of neighbors had established neighborhood e-mail mailing lists. They were using them to share all sorts of information: local events, move-ins and outs, and suspicious activity. In light of the frequency with which we hear complaints about petty crime around Wallingford and the police department's lack of interest in doing anything about it, this seems like an easy…

Crime Redux

Perhaps it was a "speak of the devil" moment, but no sooner did we break our long "no crime stories" streak on Friday, then we walk out to our garage on Sunday and find our own bike missing. Phooey! It was a beat up old Specialized mountain bike with a baby trailer attachment on the rear axle. We had a 4 tumbler combination lock on it, which was left lying on the ground, tumbled to the right combination. Perhaps we were…
