How one joy ride destroyed a 47-year-old family business truck called “The Beast”

This article was co-written by Tom Mattausch, who shared the truth of his grandfather, Clayton Potter Dick. I walked out of Stone’s Throw Coffee and Market with two hours of stories still ringing in my head. Wilma and her son Tom Mattausch had just finished telling me about their family patriarch’s transformative landscaping venture and the relic that was their touchstone to him: their beloved, battle-scarred 1979 Ford F-250 known simply as “The Beast.” It was a 47-year-old working truck, modified…

An Alarming Response to Neighborhood Disruption

I woke up crankier than usual one morning last week after a car alarm had woken me around 1:30 a.m. for the second night in a row. Smash and Grabs at the QFC

UPDATE 9/9:  Terrie Johnston, the North Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator with the Seattle Police Department, got back to me after this post was published.  She has a theory as to why the images have not yet been obtained by SPD and will investigate further.  But she wants us to know that SPD will gladly take evidence of crime in the neighborhood.  I'll be working behind the scenes to connect her with Tina or the QFC team.  Hopefully, SPD will have some…
