RoRo

A couple weeks back, we ran a short story about an interesting piece of public art. In the comments section, someone mentioned that they passed it on their way to RoRo, someone else asked how the food was, and a couple of folks responded that it was excellent. "RoRo?" we thought to ourselves. "What's Roro?" Somehow, we managed to let two and a half years pass since their opening and never have tried RoRo BBQ (3620 Stone Way N). This was…

Rancho Bravo: The Plot Thickens

When we left off (previous posts: Winchell's Last Donut, Rancho Bravo Closed?!), we'd discovered that following the shuttering of Winchell's, Rancho Bravo, the taco truck of city-wide fame that had made a home in the donut shop's parking lot had closed as well, hanging a "pending new lease" sign out front. Cub reporter that we are, we dropped a line to Freddy Rivas, the proprietor of said taco truck, hoping for some hopeful news. Here's what we learned: Hope you and…

Rancho Bravo Closed?!

It's a calamity, people, a calamity! The impact waves of Winchell's closing have apparently rippled across the parking lot to the humble taco truck in the rear corner, Rancho Bravo. In response to our note that the Seattle Weekly was hosting a give-away at the Rancho Bravo taco truck, DOUG. commented: I don’t think this event happened today. In fact Rancho Bravo is CLOSED! Hopefully it’s only temporary. Their sign says they’re working on a new lease. We'll be making some…

Winchell’s Last Donut

Keen eyes alerted us to another fallen business on 45th Street: Winchell's. We got this note from an anonymous tipster yesterday morning: Any word on Winchells closing or are they just having a bad day? I walk by there twice a day to & from the bus but never pay much attention as I'm not that into donuts. This morning, I noticed two guys peeking in the window and this caught my attention so I glanced in to see a semi-dark…

Happy Birthday Essential Baking Cafe

This report sent in by Lower Wallingford Correspondent, Chris Witwer. I've posted things in the past that reference Essential Baking Cafe on 34th street, and when I gave folks directions to the Baby Maarten Yard Sale drop off I started by saying "You know where Essential Baking is...?" and everyone did.  But I don't think we've given them their own Wallyhood blog post yet.  So here's our excuse to do so: Wallingford's own Essential Baking Cafe is celebrating their 15th anniversary…

Wurst Festival

It says something that no less than five people e-mailed us today to make sure we knew that the free Wallingford Wurst Festival is happening this weekend, and not one of those people are involved in putting it on, just excited attendees. That said, we're not quite sure whether Sara was encouraging us, warning us or threatening us when she said "Wait 'til next year when Baby Z will want to go through the bouncy house at least 20 times!" From…

Seattle Tilth Harvest Fair

We almost forgot that this weekend is Seattle Tilth's annual Harvest Fair, a wonderland of fresh veggies, workshops, informational booths and live music, all going on Saturday, September 12, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. behind the Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Ave N).
