Wallingford Weekend

Labor Day Weekend is upon us, marking the end of outdoor festivals, movies, and block parties. It’s a time when we honor thy mighty Bumbershoot and prep the outdoor grill for that last barbecue. While many plan to get the heck out of Dodge for that last long weekend until…Thanksgiving (Ugh, really? Is the next one that far away?), we’ve got some suggestions for those who plan to stick around: Thursday, 9/2 (Still a weeknight, but worth mentioning): 8 PM –…

“What Would You Say?” to free Dave Matthews tickets?

That's right, we hold in our hot and sweaty little hands a pair of Dave Matthews Band general admission tickets at the Gorge Amphitheatre this Sunday, September 5, at 6 p.m. If you're interested in going, all ya gotta do is tell us what Dave Matthews Band song or lyric best represents Wallingford and why. The Lonely Kazoo

Just a stone's throw over in Fremont, there's this bit of inanity going on: The Lonely Kazoo: A Synthetic Journey to Heaven” is an operatic coming-of-age story about a young kazoo searching for a new home as a post-consumer product. The show starts at 7 p.m. August 19 at the Fremont Abbey (4272 Fremont Ave N). After a raucous party…

As the Seattle Peace Concerts website puts it,  "The concerts are non-political in nature (no speeches) and celebrate peace and the oneness of all people.  AT…

If you haven't caught chanteuse Julie Cascioppo's campy act, y'oughta. She has returned from a six month trip to India and will be performing her "comeback show" on Bastille Day, Wednesday July 14th at 7 pm at the Good Shepherd Center's Chapel Performance Space (4649 Sunnyside Ave N). Here she tells us about it in that third person narrative that all performers who write their own copy must produce: JULIE CASCIOPPO, SEATTLE'S ORIGINAL JAZZ CABARET SINGER, INVITES YOU ON A SUB-CONTINENTAL…

The Family 4th of July at Gas Works is On!

Every Fourth of July—around 4:00 p.m. or so—I watch as scores of drivers swoop in for one of the precious few remaining parking spaces on my street. As the hours pass, the scene changes from motorists to pedestrians, who make their way down Wallingford Avenue in a slow and steady stream. They’ve got quite a few blocks to go before they hit Gas Works Park, but this stretch of Wallingford becomes a giant block party in and of itself. The street…
