JSIS Plant Sale tomorrow

The first graders at John Stanford International School are hosting their annual plant sale to raise money for their sister school Juan de la Barrera in Puerta Vallarta. The sale will be on the playground (on 4th Ave. NE, above 40th St. NE) near the basketball court on Saturday, May 12 from 10-1 pm.  We're told there will be lots of heirloom vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. Perfect timing for Mother's Day! The first graders have been planting and tending seedlings for…

‘Pugilist Specialist’ at Stone Soup

This coming weekend, The Wrecking Crew Theater Company will bring their production of Adriano Shaplin's Pugilist Specialist to Wallingford's Stone Soup Theater. Described as a "piercing look at our nation's military power through the eyes of a group of soldiers assigned to perform a black-ops mission," Pugilist promises to step outside traditional theatrical boundaries and engage spectators on an exploration of "freedom, gender equality, power and what it means to be a soldier in the modern age." A core mission of this company is to present the "riskier" side of theater--that…

Vote to keep Seattle wading pools open this summer

We'd like to thank Wallingford resident Greg Flood who wrote the following guest post: Ask.com is doing a survey to select a project to fund for Seattle and funding operation of our wading pools is one possibility. It only takes a few seconds to vote at http://www.seattleasks.com/ before May 15. If successful, Seattle pools will be saved for this summer, but what about future years? Seattle Parks and Recreation has reduced the operating hours of Seattle wading pools in recent years due to budget cuts.…

Oasis Art Gallery closing in July

Oasis Art Gallery (3644 Wallingford Avenue North) in lower Wallingford will close its doors in July. Owners Alex Strazzanti and Jeannie Trimarco-Strazzanti sent the following email to the gallery's newsletter subscribers: It's hard to find the right words ...but Jeannie and I had to make the difficult decision to close Oasis Art Gallery. The state of the economy over the last few years has significantly affected art sales and the last six months have been particular challenging.  Although our dedication to promoting…

Kathleen Cromp from the Wallingford Senior Community Center, and Jake Weber from FamilyWorks wrote to tell us how touched they were by the generosity of our neighborhood during the GiveBIG event on May 2, and they've asked us to pass along the following message to the community: Dear Wallingford Friends, FamilyWorks and Wallingford Community Senior Center want to thank Wallyhood and the many community donors for their amazingly generous response to Seattle Foundation’s Give BIG on May 2!
