Izilla Toys Closing

Izilla Toys announced it was closing its shop in a very sad email to its customers this morning titled, "Thank you and goodnight...it's been big fun, mostly." Here's the announcement: Ugh.  This whole thing hurts. It's over.  The economy, internet shopping and our inability to find the answers to some pressing questions have forced us to hear the truth that has been yelling in our ears for the last couple years.  Izilla Toys isn't needed these days. We wish it wasn't…

Last Art Walk of 2011

Last Wednesday was the last Wallingford Farmer's Market of 2011, and this Wednesday will be the last Wallingford Art Walk of 2011. The Art Walk committee had originally planned to turn the Art Walk into a year-round event, but based on community reaction and declining attendance, they've decided to take a break for the next several months, and come back starting in February with an every-other-month event. Tara Shuttleworth, the organizer, wrote: We have enjoyed the past year and trying to make…

Bandolero Closes

Our chum to the north, My Green Lake, is reporting that Tangletown's Bandolero, which morphed from the Pour House, which in turn replaced the Luau Lounge, has shuttered its doors: “I was there Saturday night at 9:30 and it was open as usual with a decent group of customers,” Bandolero patron Sonja Hardenbrook told us. “Walked by Sunday at 3 p.m. and it was all closed up with a goodbye letter on the door. We've asked him to let us know what the Community Council is up to, and he has graciously agreed.) The Wallingford Community Council will consider its position on a large office building proposed for  Stone Way between 34th and 35th Streets at its regular meeting…

Jazz Hands and Grapevines

Lori Hollow wrote to tell us that she used to substitute teach for Jazzercise classes over at Lincoln High back in the early 90s; but once renovations were slated for the school, the classes had to move further north. Now, 20 years later, Lori has brought Jazzercise back to Wallingford, over at OmCulture beginning tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 4) at 5:30pm. Here's the Jazzerscoop: When I moved to Seattle in 1991, I was called to sub a Saturday morning Jazzercise class for Kathy Batson…

Wallingford home to most dangerous intersection for cyclists

Seattle Department of Transportation data identifies the block of Dick's Drive-In (111 NE 45th St) as 2010's most hazardous intersection for bicyclists, reports seattlepi.com. Four collisions involving bicycles happened at this site last year, and six over the last three years. Fortunately, none were fatal. I walked the two blocks to Dick's Thursday evening to watch bikes and cars. I saw several bikes come downhill in the street, a couple ride uphill on the sidewalk (legal in Seattle), and a few…
