Comedy Open Mic at Murphy’s

Wallyhood is pleased to introduce our special guest blogger and comedian, Barbara Sehr. When was the last time you thought about standing up in front of your neighbors and throwing out a punch line or two? There’s a word for that — a comedy open mic. Murphy’s Irish Pub, has become a proving ground for live comedy every Sunday evening at 8 pm.  The home of Wallingford’s Irish spirit(s), hosted a gaggle of comedians in its very first regular comedy open…

Help design a new park at Woodlawn and 35th

While every cloud may have a silver lining, every dump must have a pretty patch of green. This adage rings particularly true if the dump happens to be in our neighborhood, which is why the Wallingford Community Council (WCC) is working with a landscape designer and a Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) facilitator to create some green spaces adjacent to the newly-redesigned North Transfer Station (see map below). Would you like to volunteer to help design the space? Sure, c'mon, why not!…

Birds, Bees, and a Goat

Last week, we told you about Seattle Tilth's city-wide Chicken Coop and Urban Farm Tour.  This week, we get to announce the Wallingford-centric "Birds, Bees, and Maybe a Goat." Cameron Miller, who is helping coordinate this year's Wallingford Walks, invites us all: This has been a very popular event where walkers visit several 'urban backyard farms' in the neighborhood. This guided walk will make stops at homes where the owners keep bees, chickens, ducks, rabbits, goats, as well as grow fruit…

Meeting tomorrow to discuss motel site on Aurora

Fremont and Wallingford residents who live close to the empty Thunderbird Motel/Fremont Inn on Aurora received letters from Catholic Community Services (CCS) about a meeting they're holding tomorrow (Wednesday, 7/13) to discuss the site's future. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm at the Fremont Abbey (4272 Fremont Avenue N.) Before it was sold in 2010, the Aurora Avenue motel had a long history of being a "chronic nuisance". The CCS letter provides some insight into their proposed plans of low-income housing:…
