Joule Serves Up Its Winter Supper Series

Wallingford's very own Joule hosts its second annual winter supper series, serving family style comfort food, which to me sounds like just the thing to ward off those winter blues. From Joule's website: Joule presents 2nd annual Winter Supper 2010: Globe Trekker Series. We will serve a casual family style meal around different themes on Sundays from January through March. Each dinner will have 5-7 different dishes that are to be shared among the table. Please visit Joule's Facebook page weeks…

Izilla is Here to Stay

Back in October, we mentioned that Izilla Toys was going to open an annex store in the Wallingford Center for the holidays, with the hope that they might make the space a second location.  Turns out, they like us so much, they're here to stay.  Though the shop is now closed for renovation, the plan is to re-open some time in mid-January, with a grand re-opening celebration slated for early February. "We were really moved by how welcoming and supportive the…

Volunteer as a Friend to the ‘Friends’

The Friends of McDonald School (not to be confused with the McDonald Elementary School Community -- I'll give you a moment to sort that out) needs some volunteers to help spend some money! Friends of McDonald School (FOM) is a non-profit organization that raises money for community space improvements on the school grounds. So far, they've done a great job in adding a brand new outdoor play structure, colorful maps on the blacktop, and a basketball hoop. Now in their second…

This morning one orange rests deep in its center, and the bowl turns to a blossom. -- Robert Sund

Wallingford Photo Snaps Shut

Sorry to see a good business go. Back in December, we speculated that we might see more shop closing after…

Sustainable Wallingford in the New Year

Cathy Tuttle writes: Sustainable Wallingford is growing into a group of friends and neighbors who are looking ahead to the time when we will need to live more locally and care about each other more compassionately.  Welcome to 2010! Sustainable Wallingford friends and neighbors will gather this Saturday, Jan 9, from 10-noon at Mosaic Community Coffeehouse at 4401 2nd Ave NE. When we hear the words climate change, peak oil, food security, downsizing, and local economy, we want to be part of…

Cutz Meridian salon (4515 Meridian Ave N)will be hosting an artist reception for Kathy Liao this Saturday, January 9th from 7 - 10 pm. Taiwanese-American artist Liao draws inspiration from her diverse Hakka Chinese and Japanese ancestries as she seeks to bring awareness to the Asian stereotypes that color her life experiences. Her works are often shaped by the dichotomy between Asian and American culture that she experienced throughout her formative years.
