This post comes to us from Tara Katz, Director of Fremont Community School and the owner of Tara’s Tots (both in Wallingford). Had you been walking around Wallingford Saturday June 4, over by the Good Shepherd Center's Tilth Alliance, or down N 45th St, you may have noticed a small cluster of people and a dog being filmed as they traveled along. If you had known any better, you could have joined and walked along with them because these urbanites were meandering…
Q: Where do you take the man who has given you so much for Father's Day? A: To the Octopus Bar to stuff himself with hot dogs all for a good cause! “Dad, I just wanted to say FRANKS for being there". "Your jokes are the WURST, but you’re a real WEINER and I RELISH our time together. So let’s MEAT and KETCHUP June 19th at The Octopus Bar for a Father’s Day Hot Dog Eating Competition"! That’s right, June 19th…
Summer Solstice Summer Solstice 2022 in the Northern Hemisphere is Tuesday, June 21st. In Seattle, we will enjoy daylight from 5:11 A.M. to 09:10 PM. Notice I said “daylight” and not “sunshine” (deep sigh). The Farmer’s Almanac did not get it right for our June this year since they predicted warm and sunny weather with 1” of precipitation. Every home gardener I know has been lamenting the state of their tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, so I thought it might be good to…
After a two year respite, one of Seattle's most colorful traditions returns in all its whimsy. The Fremont Solstice Parade is back -- but without a Wallingford finish in Gas Works Park this year. NEW SOLSTICE PARADE ROUTE The 2022 Fremont Solstice Parade kicks off at 3rd Ave NW and Leary Way, continues along 36th Street, then takes a right on N. Evanston, looping back westbound on 35th Street to end right in the heart of the Fremont Fair! Saturday, June…
Lumen Bioscience has expanded into the space formerly occupied by the Essential Bakery on the northeast corner of 34th and Woodlawn just east of the transfer station. Lumen’s main office is just kitty corner across the street at 1441 N 34th St. The Essential Baking Company closed down their Wallingford cafe back in 2020, and the space has sat empty ever since. I tried repeatedly to contact them to find out what they intend to use the new space for, but…
Back in March, Wallyhood published an article about Mahamed Mohamud, a FamilyWorks and Wallingford Boys & Girls Club volunteer who tragically drowned last summer in Green Lake (Seattle Times article, Kiro 7 article). Earlier this year, Mahamed’s mother, who still is an employee at FamilyWorks, worked with Lincoln High School staff, the Alliance for Education, and a group of community members to establish a scholarship in Mahamed’s name for graduating seniors at Lincoln. Kirby Lochner, Communications Coordinator at FamilyWorks, passed this description…
