Ride of Silence tonight

Tonight at 6pm, cyclists from all over the city will gather at Gas Works Park to begin the seventh annual Ride of Silence. The bike ride is a 9-12 mile, slow pace procession around the city, to honor cyclists who have been killed in traffic. While the Ride of Silence attracts hundreds of cyclists, the event itself is very much a grassroots effort. Wallingford to get a bike boulevard

Wallingford will soon get a bike boulevard, thanks to the efforts of Cathy Tuttle, founder of Spokespeople--an organization dedicated to safe bicycling in Seattle.   A bike boulevard is a designated street on which bicycles have priority over motor vehicles, and bikes are free to use the middle of the street while the use of installed "traffic calming" techniques (signage, traffic circles, stop signs at intersections) force drivers to slow down, and be aware of bicyclists.  Bike boulevards are the foundation…

New Belgium Brewing's Tour de Fat rolled into Seattle on July 31, where more than 4,000 costumed bicycle enthusiasts swarmed Gas Works Park to increase awareness of cycling as a sustainable form of transportation.  The event raised $11,500 for Bicycle Alliance of Washington and Bike Works to continue bike advocacy. Crime Redux

Perhaps it was a "speak of the devil" moment, but no sooner did we break our long "no crime stories" streak on Friday, then we walk out to our garage on Sunday and find our own bike missing. Phooey! Blackberries Along The Burke

If you’ve noticed people gingerly poking around the brambles alongside the Burke Gilman Trail, chances are they’ve spotted patches of ripened wild blackberries.
