Blackberries Along The Burke

If you’ve noticed people gingerly poking around the brambles alongside the Burke Gilman Trail, chances are they’ve spotted patches of ripened wild blackberries. Our little band of berry pickers biked down to the Trail today and found a lush spot parallel to Dunato’s Marine Services and Supply.  Though it looked like most of the brambles had already been picked clean, there were still plenty of places underneath for little hands to reach. Frolicking Fun this Friday at the Fremont 5K

The Fremont 5K is easily my most favorite road race in town--it's convenient, it's mostly flat, the weather's usually mild, and it has a beer garden. Urban Assault Ride 2010

The Urban Assault Ride (bikes, that is) will wend its way through Wallingford on Sunday, May 16th.  If you're not familiar,  UAR is fast-growing event that started in Austin, Texas.  This year's Seattle ride benefits Bikeworks Seattle, a non-profit whose mission is to build sustainability by promoting bicycling & by educating young people. Last week, we reported that, despite concerns that the Wallingford wading pool might be closed due to city budget cuts, we had spoken with the Seattle Department of Aquatics, and the pool would, in fact, open this summer (although many other neighborhood pools would not be so lucky).
