Paleo Food Truck at Wine World

Paleo, in case you've been hiding under a rock, is the new food craze. Embraced by cross-fitters as well as the gluten-free crowd, it eschews grains, dairy and processed food: the principle is that our bodies are adapted to eat the way our ancestors ate when they were evolving, so that's what we should eat, too. Think vegetables and organ meat. When we were down in Portland a couple weeks back, we had some fine eating at the Cultured Caveman food…

Fare Thee Well

After four years and 1,143 posts, it’s time for me to say so long. This will be my last post on Wallyhood. I’ve had an awesome four years writing for Wallyhood, and I owe most of that awesomeness to Jordan, who created the best forum for having a virtual over-the-fence chat. Here's an update from the OHPL group: [Earlier this week], the DPD released a new set of recommended building code changes regarding the development of backyard / side yard…

Wallingford CVS Update

Jenny Brailey wrote to tell us she spoke with the CVS/Velmeir spokesperson today and this information comes from her as well as the local architect they hired: What CVS is now planning in Wallingford is to keep the existing building in place, remodel the inside and make improvements to the outside to ‘restore its grandeur.’ CVS/Velmeir is NOT interested in a multi-story building with housing on top. They say this is per the wishes of the property owner, who I’m told…

Green Your School

Four years ago, my introduction into the world of public-school parenting was eased by finding my niche in the school early on. A personable woman – who turned out to be Wallywriter and waste-reducer extraordinaire, Barb – invited me to volunteer in the school lunchroom where I helped the student Green Team manage the sorting of compost, recycling and trash. The following year, my son changed schools to one that didn’t have a lunchroom recycling and composting program. I called on…
