Senior Center seeks painting supplies

Folks over at the Wallingford COMMUNITY Senior Center are preparing to spruce up their location a bit and they're asking the community if anyone has some painting supplies they'd care to donate for the project: This Friday, September 16th, is United Way Day of Caring, when volunteers from around King County come together to help local nonprofits, schools, and parks. WCSC is getting a team of volunteers from Nordstrom to help paint the lobby, front desk, and livingroom - it's going…

La Figa

A year or two back, our friend (and James Beard-award winning chef) Tiberio Simone asked if he could have some of the honey our bees make here in Wallingford. He wanted to drizzle over the naked bodies of some friends and take pictures. We didn't end up giving him any, not for any prudish reasons, rather just plain laziness. It's a shame, because the book of photos that he and Matt Freedman created, La Figa: Visions of Food and Form, is a truly…

Wallingford Neighborhood Greenway update

Things may be rolling along, but it's not too late to get involved in Wallingford's Neighborhood Greenway project! Representatives from Ballard, Beacon Hill, Wallingford, and the U District will be there to share plans, best practices and issues. Plus, Frederica Merrell…

SPU holds first “Green Group” meeting for Dump

The drive to renew the North Transfer Station (NTS, or, colloquially, the Dump) continues on apace. We received this update from Bill Benzer, the SPU project manager for the effort: Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) recently formed a new group of neighbors and community members to build off of the work of the North Transfer Station (NTS) Stakeholder Group process, which ended in June, by planning programming elements of the green space around the new transfer station. This past June, the NTS…

How to Survive a Zombie Attack

Everybody knows there are zombies, sometimes hundreds of them, in Fremont.  What would happen if the crowd spilled east of Stone Way one of these days, and we were attacked by them?  How do we protect ourselves?  Would rubbing garlic all over ourselves do any good?  (No!  Try cilantro instead!) Even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has deemed this topic worthy of attention.  See their newish webpage Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse here. This month's Wallingford Walk, "How to…
