Go on a ‘Hood Hunt this Wednesday night

How well do you think you know your way around Wallingford? Now's your chance to show off your mad map skills and join folks on a 'Hood Hunt, right here in our very own neighborhood, this Wednesday evening (9/14), beginning at 6pm. This free, map-based scavenger hunt begins at St. Benedict Church (Wallingford Avenue N. and N. 49th St.) Here's how it works: Download a 'Hood Hunt map on their website (the map will have a grid with familiar landmarks, but…

Help put the ‘home’ in Wallingford Home Tour

We're just about a month away from the 9th annual Wallingford Home Tour and the Wallingford Neighborhood Office is still looking for homeowners to add their homes to the tour. The Home Tour is scheduled for Sunday, October 2, from 11am - 4pm and the proceeds support the Wallingford Neighborhood office. Hopefully the WNO won't run into the same problems as last year, when they had to cancel the Home Tour due to lack of homeowner participation. The good news, though,…

Doggy Style now open

This time, I mean it. Really. Doggy Style East Coast Hot Dogs (4455 Stone Way N, adjacent to Big Wheel) is open for business. How do I know this? I'm munching on a New Yorker now (hot dog with sauerkraut and mustard) for lunch, and it's good. More on that later. I met with Robi who had been hired by owners Odie and Michael to set up the stand, and he gave me the skinny on the whole "open/closed/open/closed" situation. Owners…

Smash and Grabs at the QFC

UPDATE 9/9:  Terrie Johnston, the North Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator with the Seattle Police Department, got back to me after this post was published.  She has a theory as to why the images have not yet been obtained by SPD and will investigate further.  But she wants us to know that SPD will gladly take evidence of crime in the neighborhood.  I'll be working behind the scenes to connect her with Tina or the QFC team.  Hopefully, SPD will have some…

Tilth Harvest Fair

Here's your reminder: tomorrow, Saturday Sept 10th from 10 am - 4 pm is Seattle Tilth's Harvest Fair at Meridian Park behind the Good Shepherd Center. What do you want? There's live music, good food, demonstrations, an organic farmers market, chickens, goats, ducks, bees, cider, a seed swap, buskers, authors, and more. The weather people say it'll be sunny and in the low 80's, a finer day you couldn't ask for. Summer's here for another one, two weeks tops. Celebrate it.…

What do you think of Art Walk?

So, for the second month, we were somewhat underwhelmed by Wallingford Art Walk. Not many people out, not many businesses seeming to participate, few artists actually with their work. What up, Wallingford? We checked in with Art Walk organizer Tara Shuttleworth, who said she'd welcome some feedback from the community. So, we turn it to, Walliingford, how do you think it's going? For our piece, we love the idea of a Wallingford Art Walk, neighbors mingling with each other amidst cutting…

Snackdown: Wallingford vs. Fremont

The good peeps at Seattle Weekly have put together a fun food competition called Seattle's Neighborhood Snackdown! where readers are encouraged to vote for the best neighborhood for good eatin'. I'm pretty confident that we've got some of the best eatin' digs in all of Seattle. We bested Madrona last week and have moved to the second round of the contest where we're now up against Fremont. Now, I'll be the first to tell ya that Fremont's got some pretty good…
