520, Tolling, and “Transportation Choices”

SDOT is planning to finally stick it to 520 commuters this spring, to the proposed tune of $7 per day for peak commutes.  Unfortunately, the Valhalla I fervently wished for was eliminated as an option, as they also plan to nail carpoolers- you know, those little buses that run for free. My interpretation is that carpoolers lack for a lobby that can push their point of view. They also aren’t extreme enough for either political party to pander to (Cars Bad!…

Earlier in the week we posted the details about the new playground at John Stanford, and the ribbon cutting ceremony that was scheduled for Tuesday.  Wallingford neighbor and photographer Nancy Treder attended the ceremony for the snazzy new playground, and she was kind enough to send us the following report and set of photos.  Take it away, Nancy, and thank you! Tonight is Science Night at Hamilton

Hamilton International Middle School (1610 N. 41st. Last year, Wallywriter and photographer Matt Mason went to Hamilton's inaugural Science Night and put together a fun photo presentation.  Have a…

McDonald Elementary goes international. Take the survey.

Last Thursday, Seattle Public Schools International Education specialist Karen Kodama presented families with next steps to rolling out an international curriculum for McDonald Elementary.  If funds are allocated by the district next month, the immersion component of the program will begin in Fall 2011, with incoming Kindergarten students and children entering first grade learning either Japanese or Spanish.  In 2012, other components of Seattle Public Schools' International Education curriculum will follow suit, providing students with a broad global perspective.  You can…

Shelob’s Ribbon Cutting

The long wait is over. Back in June, we posed a question in photos. In November, we let you know the answer, and that progress was being made. Now, it's January, and we've arrived at the grand unveiling. Lucie Campbell wrote to let us know that tomorrow morning, Tuesday January 18th at 9:30 am, the John Stanford International School is hosting a brief ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate their new playground renovations (see before and after below). "The Wallingford Community has been very…
