4 Your Eyes Takes 1st Prize

There was at least one Wallingford first place winner in King 5's Best of Western Washington poll: 4 Your Eyes Only Optical in Wallingford Center took the Best Eyewear category. Congratulations! To be fair, Dick's, which has a Wallingford location (its first) took Best Burger (we can only assume that the bulk of Seattle has just never tried Red Mill, which has fewer locations) and Desert Sun Tanning took Best Tanning Salon, but they're based on Maple Valley. King 5, you're…

Wallyhood’s First Reader Meetup

We'd like to thank each and every one of you who turned out at the Blue Star last night for our first ever Reader Meetup.  We had a great turnout and really appreciated meeting you and hearing your thoughts about the neighborhood, and ways we can make Wallyhood even better. Among the thirty or so neighbors in attendance, we finally got the chance to meet folks like Anne, Mike Ruby, John, SeattleAlan, Peg, Kimberly, and Shirley.  Many of you told us…

Thursday Evening Huskies Game

The UW Huskies host UCLA tonight, for a rare Thursday night football game. Kickoff is at 5 p.m. and traffic is expected to be significantly congested in and around the University District. Nobody knows for sure, but it doesn't take a huge stretch of the imagination to envision delays along 45th street through Wallingford late Thursday afternoon and into rush hour.  Starting at 2:30 p.m., bus routes that normally travel on the UW campus will be rerouted due to expected traffic…

Another festering pit update

Wallyreader Darcey e-mailed us with a link to a new permit from the Department of Planning and Development for 3920 Stone Way--a.k.a. "the festering pit" on the corner of Stone and 40th. Folks may recall that we did a "festering pit update" a little over a year ago, when we spoke with Mike Derr of Redimensions--the general contractor.  There really wasn't much news but Derr sounded hopeful that financing would be resolved in the future. So we phoned Redimensions again, and…

Satay slated to open in December

A few Wallybits back, we mentioned a new restaurant, called Satay, that'll soon be opening in the old Avila space.  Satay (1711 N. 45th St.) will offer quick casual Malaysian street food for lunch and dinner.  The restaurant now has a website (www.satayseattle.com) and is scheduled to open sometime in December. Satay is the brainchild of owners Peter Ringold and Patrick McCredie -- two friends from college who toured Southeast Asia during their junior year of college.  They were really impressed…

Get a Brazilian at Cutz

We had a totally different idea of what it meant to get a "Brazilian" than the stylists at Cutz Meridian (4515 Meridian Ave N). Cutz is the current Tippr deal, offering 50% of Brazilian Smoothing, Cut and Style. According to Tippr page, a "Keratine Express Brazilian smoothing" is "one of the most innovative and effective professional smoothing treatments in the industry. This treatment produces immediate and noticeable shine and conditioning effects after just one treatment." Totally different than what we thought.…
