Library “Sugar Daddy” Sweetens the Pot

Exciting news from the Seattle Public Library Foundation: Today we are announcing that an anonymous donor has pledged $500,000 to The Seattle Public Library Foundation if we can raise a matching amount through community contributions.  . . . . The anonymous donor was especially concerned about how budget cuts would impact the community, in particular children and families who rely on Seattle's public libraries for so much.   . . . . Weekend Roundup

Last time I wrote a Weekend Roundup, I said it wasn't Fall yet.  Guess I won't say that this time.  But that doesn't mean there still isn't plenty to do around the 'hood: Friday 5pm-7pm. City Cellars holds informal drop-in tastings on Fridays. This week, they'll feature "Oregon Other Red Wines."  Hmmm.  Other?? Or is it Other Red?? Tastings include a flight of up to three wines, and cost $3-$5. Friday and Sunday evenings, 7pm. Art of the Table Supper Club. …

Casa Latina Fundraiser

Readers may recall this past spring when we ran the provocatively titled Save Time - Hire an Immigrant story, explaining how to go about hiring a day laborer, which, in turn, either a) helps provide a source of income for the economically disadvantaged or b) undermines the very fabric of our society by encouraging illegal immigration and suppressing the wage rate of US citizens.
