Oddities Along Wallingford Ave.

Unquestionably the strangest item I have ever seen put out for free on the curb.  A box decorated like a giant red dice.  My mind boggles at the motivation for creating it and the use its future owner will put it to.  I don't question that it will soon have a future owner. The easy way to exercise your dog.  Leash it to your bike and go for a ride. Welcome back wacky, wonderful Wallingford wurst wizard! Whole lotta stickers goin'…

SHARE Homeless Shelter coming to Gift of Grace Church

I found out last night from a neighbor that SHARE is opening an indoor homeless shelter at the Gift of Grace Lutheran Church in Wallingford (2102 North 40th Street). SHARE is Seattle Housing and Resource Effort. According to its website, SHARE is a partner organization of homeless and formerly homeless men and women that provides King County's largest shelter network, with fifteen indoor shelters and two tent cities. All their efforts are self-managed, run by the homeless members themselves. In addition, the organization…

The Street Treats truck is coming!

As a kid growing up in the suburbs, hearing the jingling bells of the ice cream truck was one of the best things about summer.  Living in a tract housing development that had 2.5 children for every home, our purchases were easily the driver’s entire take for the day.  We’d be in the middle of a kickball game in the cul-de-Sac, or building a fort in the back yard when the bells beckoned us to drop whatever it was we were…

Get out your longboard and ride! Come on, seriously, how fun would that be?

The Monsters of Meridian Park

Imagine, if you will, an idyllic park setting where sounds of children's laughter and shrieks of delight fill the air.  You shade your eyes from the sun and catch a glimpse of someone sitting on a nearby bench.  Looking around, you discover that this person is at the park alone, which you find strange.  “Something’s not quite right,” you think, as you watch him wander through the playground.  Your instincts tell you that this person shouldn’t be anywhere near children. Back…
