Arson in North Seattle?

This report submitted by Lower Wallingford Correspondent, Chris Witwer. The Seattle Fire Department is warning residents that a series of fires in the Greenwood neighborhood were intentionally set.   There have been at least 4 suspicious fires in the area in the last two months -- two of them rather recently. In addition, two abandoned buildings on the western edge of the UW campus were torched last night, according to King 5.  Fire investigators aren't saying the fires are all connected, but…

Golden Olive

A couple weeks back, we ran a piece by Rory extolling Golden Olive, the Greek restaurant on 45th (1712 N 45th St). Despite having lived in this neighborhood for close to two decades, we'd never been, so we decided to check it out. We considered it a good sign that when we Twittered that we were going, three Wallyhood readers (@aviel, @jonLiechty and @bitterbiscuit) all sent tweets back immediately applauding our choice. The short report: excellent food, well worth the trip…

Also, when your sale is over, if you've got leftover kids clothes, toys and books, they'd be welcome donations to FamilyWorks, who provide services, clothing and other necessities to families in need. View Wallingford…

Ten years later, the Seattle Planning Commission and Neighborhood Planning Advisory Committee are taking a moment to see how things are going, and are seeking feedback from businesses, residents, employees, students and visitors of those neighborhoods. The draft status reports are on-line for you to review and give your feedback. You have until…

Harvest Your Fruit

We need to keep this short, because our fingers are still sticky with purloined plum juice. While there's been lots of conversation in the comments section of our Fruit Robbers post on whether that's kosher, regardless, there's lots of fruit coming ripe in Wallingford, and, if you've got a tree with more fruit than you can handle, please don't let it go to waste. Lettuce Link is a project of Solid Ground that will harvest your fruit and distribute it to…

Bella Cosa Unbound

We fogged the glass of the shuttered Bella Cosa this evening long enough to wave over Alex and Jared, who pushed aside enough debris to allow us to get a stroller (and a curious stroller pusher) through the door. The good news is that the remodel is fully underway. They've knocked down walls, torn out fixtures, exposed ceilings and wiring and are fully on their way to a fully featured restaurant. The floorplan calls for a kitchen open to the dining…
