National Cupcake Day

Though we're not quite sure by whose declaration, today is National Cupcake Day, and there is no better place to celebrate this auspicious occasion than the city's finest cupcake emporium, Trophy Cupcakes (in Wallingford Center, 1815 N 45th St). We hear from Jennifer Shea, Trophy's Chief Cupcakologist : Sunday, October 18th is National Chocolate Cupcake Day, and although we pay tribute to chocolate pretty much every day of the year here at Trophy, we thought we'd debut a flavor we've wanted…

Wallingford / Green Lake Garage Sales and Open Houses

Well, this week's map would be better titled "Open Houses and Garage Sale", because we've only got one garage sale. What's happening, people, you actually want to keep all that stuff? It's junk! Get rid of it! View Wallingford / Green Lake Garage Sales & Open Houses in a larger map As always, thanks to My Green Lake for assembling.

Looks like the crackdown on shady motels on Aurora that we covered a month or so ago haven't yet succeeded in rooting out the trouble. EastlakeAve has embedded some b-boy (breakdancing) videos shot in the Eastlake neighborhood. They're pretty good. This one's our favorite:

Volunteer Gardeners Sought

This one came over the wire from Sustainable Wallingford, we thought we'd help throw a wider net: Last year, in a modest greenhouse near Gasworks Park, a hearty crew of Wallingford volunteers managed to grow thousands of organic veggie starts destined for several Seattle Community Gardens (read all about it). The resulting produce was ultimately delivered to food banks and we were proud to be part of the chain that helped feed our neighbors. We'd like to resume greenhouse production early…

Enchanted April

Want to meet one of your neighbors? How about Ryan Childers? He lives on 45th St down near Latona. By day, he's a preschool teacher. By night, he's Mellersh Wilton, an uptight and businesslike British gentleman following his wife to a villa in Italy. At least that's the character he's playing in Taproot Theater's production of Enchanted April. Ryan, who was born in Port Angeles but moved to Seattle 6 years ago (and to Wallingford 2 years ago), has been acting…
