Homebound? Can't make it up to the shops on 45th Street but want to window shop? Never fear, the Internetz are here! Our friend Rusty has been working on a project, Real Places, for some years now that allows people to take Google Street View-like tours of the inside of buildings and such, and he's featured Wallingford's 45th Street early in its development. Click that link and take a stroll through Sock Monster, Fainting Goat, Not a Number and more. As…

Sea Turtle, in Progress

We reported on Friday that neighborhood was about to adopt a colorful turtle on an intersection close to Hamilton.  Well, here's an update, along with some photos of the nearly completed project: When I left my house at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, I passed a small group of neighbors armed with brooms to prep the intersection of 41st and Interlake for its transformation. By Sunday afternoon, I was amazed by the group’s progress: a graceful sea turtle with yellow eyes,…

The mural is funded in part by the city’s Department of Neighborhoods…

46th Street Mural Dedication

Now that was fast!  The 46th Street Mural will be dedicated on Friday, August 27th. In April, the City announced that the Fremont/Wallingford 46th Street Mural Project would be funded through the Small and Simple Projects Fund: This project will build community and improve the cityscape by constructing a lasting mural to brighten this underpass, used by thousands of cars and many pedestrians every day.  It will create a neighborhood identification linking upper Fremont and Wallingford and deter crime and graffiti…

Art Stuck on Poles

"First we look at the hills in the painting, Then we look at the painting in the hills." - Li Liweng, 17th century On 45th Street.  I consider this street art.  Some may call it graffiti. The badge says "Hello My Name Is Douchebag Californian".  Near Paper Delights. Beneath the poster of Japanese manga warrior babe, the badge says "Hello My Name Is Oops I'm Sorry".  Near Harold's Lighting. Tree shrine.  Chalkboard reads "I want to make world peace.  I want…
