Tour de Wallyhood

Being a mom of young kids, living in Wallingford is a gift. There are so many places you can go,  on foot or by bicycle, to amuse the little ones and yourself, as the winter days start to give everyone cabin fever. Just the other day, we made a solid two hour outing of walking around, doing a “tour de wallyhood” if you will. We were gone so long that the baby bjorn straps cut into my shoulders, creating semi-permanent grooves. Perhaps I…

Joule Serves Up Its Winter Supper Series

Wallingford's very own Joule hosts its second annual winter supper series, serving family style comfort food, which to me sounds like just the thing to ward off those winter blues. Essential Baking leaving Wallingford

We gave Lee at EBC a call to find out what the scoop was, and he confirmed that, while the exact plans are still being solidified, they are planning to move out of the bakery this Spring. A few years back, they acquired Parisian Star Desserts down in the Cloverdale area of South Seattle and…

Kuma Coffee

(Wallyhood reader Ryan G. sent in this fine review of little known but much loved coffee house, Kuma Coffee) We live in Seattle where it’s ok to be a coffee snob.  And that is a good thing.  We have some of the greatest independent coffee shops in the country in our own back yard… Vivace, Victrola, Stumptown, Lladro, Fuel… you get the idea.  We also have one in our neighborhood that you may never have heard of- Kuma, the storefront coffee…

Bamboo Village coming to Wallingford

Eagle-eyed Wallyhood Reader Jay W. spotted construction (and a bit of overexuberant hedge-cutting) underway at 49th and Stone Way where Home Realty used to be. A bit of web searching, and he turned up this permit, which authorizes the construction of a "1-story addition to the west of existing comm bldg, interior tenant improvements, establish use as restaurant (Bamboo Village) and occupy all per plan."
