I happened past the intersection of Stone Way and 39th just now in time to see the fire department wrapping up after putting out a fire at 3837 Stone Way. This building was the former home of Aqua Serene, a plant nursery and seller of hydroponic and other gardening supplies. Across the street from All the Best Pet Care, the building has sat unused for many years, and you may know it better as a place to buy a Christmas tree.…

Legislature Seeks Land Use Change in Wallingford

There are several bills with proposed amendments to land use law working their way though the legislature. In Washington, state law requires each city and county to prepare land use plans, sets minimum standards and establishes an Urban Growth Boundary to prevent major new housing development projects outside that boundary. The Development Plan Seattle Department of Construction & Inspections (SDCI) just plastered a yellow “Notice of Proposed Land Use Action” sign on the corner of 45th & Burke. This block will be developed into a 5-story 36-unit apartment building with retail. Additionally, the plan includes 12 parking spaces.
