In a sign of the times (and I refer to our building boom, not our COVID-19 situation), Caron Architecture of Seattle has filed a site plan with the city to redevelop the space currently occupied by Murphy’s Pub at 1928 N 45th St. The 5-story, mixed-use, retail and apartment complex would occupy a large footprint comprised not just of Murphy’s, but the spaces occupied by the defunct Cutz Hair Salon, Fat Cat Records, Sushi and Amigo Ramen and the two-story building…

Vámonos Spanish Center in Tangletown is now offering virtual Spanish classes. It's a great way to support a local business and make good use of your extra time at home. I've been taking classes with them for a few months now and they've done a great job transitioning from in-person to virtual classes. I really look forward to it every week. Make the most of your time at home by learning Spanish. More from the owner Amanda Reichert: Learn Spanish Online…

Gym Fail

There have been so many heartening stories coming out of this crisis. Globally, we've seen the introduction of the "balcony party", which I hope will stay "a thing" after the quarantines have passed. Here in Wallingford, people like Kenn Herman are working on 3-D printed face masks for healthcare workers. Parents (and grandparents) are putting teddy bears in windows for kids out for isolated walks to count. Pet owners are rallying around local businesses like Wally Pets to ensure the businesses and…

Add it in the comments or shoot me an email at [email protected] and I will update. In the following list, the delivery services they work with are…

It’s been a few months since our last update on this project, but the work goes on apace. While the sidewalk work on 40th west of Wallingford Ave. is now more done than not, the No Parking signs have gone up on 40th east of Wallingford Ave., and SDOT is warning of a few weeks of work to take place at the Wallingford/40th intersection. Be aware that the bus stop in front of the Durn Good Grocery Store has been moved…

Editor's note: I will update this list as often as I can, and include restaurants all over the neighborhood, not just on 45th St. I can't be everywhere and also homeschool my kids, so please send me your info on restaurants near you! –Katy *** I checked out the restaurants on 45th St. to find out which are offering take-out and delivery. None are allowing customers to dine in. Almost all have you come in the front door to pick up,…

Inspired for Spring?

I spent a recent evening at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show and the theme of the week was “Spring Fever”.  They even had vegetables planted in a canoe! Does anyone else feel that spring is in the air? Are you excited to start digging in the dirt? I was inspired by a talk by Brian Minter who is the Co-owner and president, Minter Country Garden Store, an innovative destination garden center and greenhouse growing operation in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.  He…
