The Seattle Times has a story about homeless deaths and includes a deeper story about a death in Meridian Park.   Wallyhood received a few emails from the community in April about a possible death in Meridian Park.  We struggled to confirm the story as calls to the police department were inconclusive.  The Seattle Times identified the deceased as Sean Boarman with a brief, compassionate look at his life in the coda to the story.  My condolences to his family. I have no great…

A big thank you to whoever added the new park at 35th and Woodlawn to Apple Maps, dubbing it Dump Park: Turns out anyone can add locations to Apple Maps' database--just visit mapsconnect.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID and follow the instructions to "add a place." Best as I can tell, the City of Seattle hasn't designated it with an official name (it's just referred to as an "open space" east of transfer station facility), so Dump Park sounds good to…

If you’ve ever walked from Northlake Pizza or Voula’s Offshore Cafe to the University District on NE Northlake Way, you know that the two-block stretch west of the University Bridge is a nightmare for pedestrians. That is about to change. Thanks to the Move Seattle levy (approved by Seattle voters in 2015), SDOT is currently installing three city blocks of sidewalk between 7th Ave NE and Eastlake Pl NE, two of which are on the north side of Northlake Way and…

Heather McAuliffe sent in this announcement: We are looking for volunteers who are willing to host an air pollution monitor at their residence or other location, such as a business or community organization, for one month or longer. Many individuals and community groups are interested in how much air pollution they breathe. Our monitors can help you answer these questions. By hosting a monitor, you will learn more about how…

Those of us living in south Wallingford now have another dining option with the opening on Wednesday (May 10) of the Union Saloon -- across from Cantinetta on Wallingford Ave. I'd been watching the renovations over the past several months wondering what was going on at that location, and on a recent Friday night, my wife and I popped in for dinner. I have this agreement with the city that whenever a business changes hands, someone goes in and removes from…
