Local Artist Melinda Hannah and Aditi Yoga|Wellness Studio Sponsor a Celebration at the Wallingford Center

February is a short month, so I believe we can justify stretching the season of love and appreciation beyond the 14th of February and share a Valentine message. Wallingford is fortunate to have a talented artist, Melinda Hannah, who loves to memorialize the heritage homes found in our neighborhood and across the city. “It’s all about the legacy of this great community,” she says. You may have met Melinda at the Wallingford Farmer’s Market (Wallyhood did a feature on her artwork…

Valentine’s Day Starts Early on Corliss

A couple of years ago, we reported on the mysterious case of Valentine’s Day hearts set out along the planting strip of Bagley Avenue N. I didn’t see any last year, although perhaps I missed them. But this year, the mysterious somebody is back! When I walked up Corliss Avenue N (between N 40th and N 43rd Streets) on February 11, hearts aplenty adorned the planting strip. And there were some along Bagley, too. How long they will remain is unknown.…

Cookie Crave & Creamery Now Open on Wallingford Avenue

Recently, my partner’s mom relocated to University House. I came across some of the new shops on Wallingford Avenue N, and the one beckoning me that sunny day (in January!!), between Dumpling the Noodle and Julia’s of Wallingford, was a tiny storefront in the Chronicle Building (4417 Wallingford Ave N, Suite…

Gas Works Park: Wallingford’s Landmark Faces Renewed Safety Debate

Gas Works Park is the number one attraction in the Wallingford neighborhood, as well as one of the top tourist destinations in Seattle. The park is also popular among locals for walking, outdoor yoga, kids’ playgrounds, summer picnics, concerts, kite flying, and even sledding during the rare winter snow. The park also draws thousands of visitors for the 4th of July celebration and for watching the New Year’s fireworks going off from the Space Needle. The 19.1-acre park, located on the…

Retiring in Wallingford: Our Walk Score is Our Best Asset

I recently read in an article in Seattle Magazine that Seattle has been named the most walkable city in the United States for 2025. That got me thinking about individual walk scores, which you can find by plugging in your address on Walk Score’s website. This came up after I commented in a Facebook group I belong to called “Retiring on a Budget.” I mentioned that I have a walk score of 99 because I live on the corner of Stone…
