Neighborhood Greenway meeting next week

The folks involved in the Wallingford Greenway project will be meeting next Wednesday, October 12, from 6:30-8:30pm at Mosaic Den (4401 2nd Avenue NE). It's open to the public and it's a dinner potluck so bring something to share and help the group plan beyond the East-West segment that will be completed this year. Cathy "Greenway" Tuttle explains the meeting's agenda: We need to plan a complete Wallingford Greenway network beyond the one mile East-West segment that will be completed this year.…

Waste Not, Wallingford – for $50k

“My neighborhood’s greener than yours!” Now’s your chance to prove it. Waste Management, the garbage, recycling, and yard/food waste hauler for Wallingford, is launching its six month Recycling Challenge campaign this week. All Seattle neighborhoods serviced by Waste Management will compete against each other for a $50,000 prize. SHARE Shelter closing at Gift of Grace Church

This morning, My Green Lake reported that all neighborhood SHARE shelters would close on October 10, citing a widely-distributed email from SHARE. So, we contacted Pastor Jami Fecher over at Gift of Grace and he confirmed that he also received the same correspondence notifying him of the closures. He sent me a link to SHARE's Google Group for direct access. Here's the post: Dear friends, hosts, allies and supporters: SHARE's money can go no further. The last night inside for the neighborhood indoor…

Cedar Grove Composting Leaves Wallingford

A Wallyhood reader (thank you!) wrote this week to tell us that Cedar Grove Composting is leaving their current location in Lower Wallingford.  Saturday will be their last day as our neighbors.  Cedar Grove Composting currently sells their products from the back of the lot at 3400 Stone Way North - on the same lot that will be developed into a 5 story living building by Skanska USA. Wallingford neighbor "Tom M" posted a link to a mock-up he made of…

Costume Sale for a Cause

Have you bought your Halloween costume yet, or will you be like the rest of us who sweat over it two days beforehand and are left with slim pickings to choose from? Fear not, fellow procrastinators, because there's a costume sale happening this Saturday (10/8) at Dance Fremont! (4015 Stone Way N., next to Pagliacci Pizza) from 10am-4pm. A costume sale at a ballet studio that holds performances all year long? Genius! Organizers say they'll have a wide assortment available that's suitable for…

Bandolero has been sold

We got an update on the recent closing of Bandolero. Owner Jay Farias sent out an email to customers on Tuesday, explaining: Dear Friends, Many of you may have already heard that Bandolero has shut its doors. Yes, it's true. We were made an offer last week from an interested party and, after much thought, it was accepted. Thank you all so much! The staff at Bandolero and I have enjoyed our time together with you over the past year and…
